If you live anywhere in downtown Toronto, there’s a decent chance that brunch is a pretty big part of your life. The best part about living at AYC is that you can choose from some of the best brunch spots in the city in the city’s two best neighbourhoods. It’s tough to say which is really the best, but we picked some of our favourite spots from each neighbourhood. Try one this weekend and decide for yourself!
Yummy Yorkville Destinations:
Located at the corner of Bellair and Cumberland, Sassafraz is set amidst an array of Victorian rowhouses in the heart of Yorkville. Serving French-inspired, Canadian cuisine, you can enjoy an exceptional menu of brunch classics with a sophisticated twist. Our favourite is the Bellair breakfast which features Creole style scrambled eggs, peppers, grilled andouille sausage and grit cakes. Yum.
For a more classic brunch experience try Flo’s Diner, which offers an affordable-yet-upscale take on the most important meal of the week. For a great pick here, we like the Good Morning Burger — a beef or turkey burger topped with peameal bacon, one egg, cheddar, lettuce and tomatoes, served with homefries.
If you’re looking for a distinctively Yorkville experience, you might just enjoy the brunch at Holt’s Café. Located inside the prestigious Holt Renfrew, you can enjoy Holt Café after you’ve worked up an appetite shopping for some of the worlds most exclusive brands. For a sophisticated brunch enjoy a Holts Mimosa and Eggs Diana (crispy crab cake, poached eggs, béarnaise sauce)!
Amazing Annex Eats:
Aunties and Uncles
This Annex landmark has been a fan-favourite since it first opened its doors back in 1998. Famous for it’s eclectic vibe and delicious brunch menu, this is the kind of place where you can really get comfortable and feel at home. For a real treat, give the banana oatmeal pancakes a try.
Named after a 19th Century Toronto socialite, playwright and musician, Fanny Chadwick’s serves contemporary comfort food with a cozy north annex atmosphere that offers more than its share of flavour and charm. Some of Fanny Chadwick’s best brunch creations include the Smoked Beef Brisket Hash and the Finnish Pancakes.
So Which is Better?
Obviously, with so many great places in each neighbourhood it’s tough to decide which one is actually better. But with so many amazing restaurants to choose from in either neighbourhood, we guarantee you can find an amazing brunch every weekend when you live at AYC.
